Shot from ambush and instantly killed while patrolling
his beat in front of The Union Fireproof Warehouse
Company, 27 N. High St., at 7:10 P.M. January
10, 1918. |

Shot from ambush and instantly killed while patrolling

Shot at 1:00 A.M. March 12, 1918, while in performance
of his duty, searching three suspects for weapons
in front of 323 S. Main St. Died about twelve
hours later. |

GEORGE WERNE
Shot and instantly killed at 9:10 A.M. on March
9, 1919 while in performance of his duty searching
three suspects for concealed weapons at the Hickory
Street Railroad Crossing. |

HAROLD ROGERS
Instantly killed on July 8, 1925 at 7:30 P.M.
when his mototcycle collided with a truck on
Brown Street near East South Street while in
performance of his duty in attempting to apprehend
a reckless driver. |

WILLIAM H. GRUBBS
Shot and fatally wounded at 3:00 A.M. on May 6,
1929 while in the performance of his duty searching
two suspects for concealed weapons at the corner
of East Market Street and Johns Avenue. Died May
10, 1929 at 7:10 P.M. |

HARLAND F. MANES
Shot and fatally wounded by gangsters on March
8, 1930 at 1:15 A.M. while in performance of his
duty investigating an accident in which they were
participants. Died March 9, 1930 at 10:15 A.M. |

FORREST GOOD
Was shot and instantly killed at 10:50 P.M. June
21, 1931, while in performance of his duty in
a gun battle with two bandits who had possession
of a stolen automobile at N. Prospect and Bluff
Streets. |

KENNETH KNEPP
Instantly killed in a traffic collision March 3, 1933, at 3:00 P .M. during
the performance of his duty as a motorcycle officer detailed to highway
patrol. |

 |
WILLIAM S. PETERSON
Involved in a traffic collision, September 3, 1933, while pursuing a drunk
driver. Suffered a coronary embolus and died October 31, 1933. |
