
Vision Statement
Our goal is to provide training that will keep all of
our officers safe from physical injury, civil and criminal
liability, and to teach our officers how to appropriately
deal with occupational and everyday stress.
We train to give our officers the necessary skills to “Protect
and Serve” with honor.
2012 Training Bureau
Jan. 19 – Hosted Highway and Traffic Safety Committee
meeting.
Jan. 23-24 – Assisted in Officer Candidate Fitness
testing.
Feb 2 & 9 – Conducted Field Training Officer
Classes.
Feb. 8, - Eight new officers were sworn in to the Akron
Police Department by Mayor Donald Plusquellic.
Feb. 13 - The new officers were all Ohio Peace Officer
Academy Certified and started their Akron specific
and advanced training in the Training Bureau. They
will receive
advanced training in such topics as Firearms, Emergency
and Pursuit Drivers Training, Defensive Tactics,
and numerous other subjects. The new officers are
expected
to be assigned
to Patrol and work with a Field Training Officer
once they complete our training.
Feb. 14 – Hosted the Junior Leadership Akron group.
The High School students were given classroom training
by our K-9 Officers and they received a Firearms Training
Simulator Course provided by the training staff.
The Training Bureau anticipates conducting advanced training
for a second class of new officers to take place in June
of this year. We will also start our In Service Firearms
Training Program in March. The Pistol, Shotgun, and Rifle
Training and Qualifications Programs will run from March
through November.
