Nixle is a community information service built exclusively for secure and reliable communications.

How does Nixle work?

The Akron Police Department went through an authentication process with Nixle to have privileges to send time sensitive urgent public safety messages to users who sign up.

How will Nixle help?

Nixle will deliver secure, reliable information to users by e-mail, cell phone and web site delivery.  Residents have a need to know what is happening where they live, where they work, and where their children go to school.  Nixle allows residents, businesses, and visitors of Akron, Ohio to receive the geographically relevant important information they need-to-know and want-to-know.  The Akron Police will supply public safety information to users.  This communication will be a tool to build safer, stronger, and more connected neighborhoods and communities.

Users should not attempt to read any text messages while driving.  Users may consider asking a passenger to read the message or utilize the read aloud feature offered on some cell phones.

Nixle is a one way communication tool; meaning all messages come directly from the Akron Police.  Although an email or cell phone screen may display a “reply” option, the Akron Police will not receive any replies using that method.  To contact the Akron Police Department, citizens may e-mail the Anonymous Tip Line; call the non-emergency number 330-375-2552; or dial 9-1-1 in the event of a life threatening situation.
